A Familiar Face Behind the Bench — and Now Behind the Franchise
The Woodstock Warriors enter their inaugural season under the ownership and management of one of the most accomplished builders in junior hockey. Jason Tatarnic, the new owner and general manager of the Warriors, needs no introduction in Carleton County. He guided the Woodstock Slammers from 2005 to 2013, transforming a struggling club into a Maritime powerhouse. In his first season behind the bench, the Slammers went from last place to first, capturing the franchise’s first President’s Cup and its first Kent Cup championship. More silverware followed: league championships in 2006, 2010, and 2012, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2012 National Championship, along with the 2012 Fred Page Cup. Tatarnic’s winning pedigree extends well beyond Woodstock. His coaching career spans the SIJHL, MHL, BCHL, and SJHL, and he guided every team he coached to its respective league finals. Earlier this year he reached a milestone few in junior hockey ever touch — his 600th career victory, against just 289 losses.
