Warriors Defeat Pioneers 4-1
The Woodstock Warriors picked up a convincing 4-1 victory over the Northern Maine Pioneers last night.
Tomas Chautur opened the scoring in the first period, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Woodstock added two more goals in the second period. Yan Krasavin made it 2-0 before Iaroslav Morozov extended the lead to 3-0, sending the Warriors into the second intermission with a three-goal advantage.
The Pioneers got on the board in the third period to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Warriors answered back when Laine Thompson found the back of the net to restore the three-goal lead and secure the 4-1 victory.
Pavel Zaitsev was strong in goal for Woodstock, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced.
Following the game, the Warriors coaching staff was pleased with the scoring opportunities the team created while recognizing there are still areas to improve.
“We created some quality scoring chances tonight. We have some talented players that can make things happen offensively. We have some areas to improve on, but definitely you can see the potential we have.”
With four different players finding the back of the net and Zaitsev turning aside 35 shots, the Warriors put together a strong team effort to earn the victory.
